II.SUMMARY OF ASSIGNMENT

Under general direction of the assigned building administrator, provides nursing skills and knowledge in the school environment to promote maximum health and facilitate the learning, social adjustment, and the emotional and physical well-being of students.

 

III.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

1.Assesses the physical, mental and environmental health of students; appraises health needs as they

   relate to the educational environment and cultural background in accordance with state and local

   statutes.

2.Recommends modification of school programs in accordance with the special needs of students.

3.Analyzes and discusses effect of student’s health on educational progress with parents, school

   personnel and community resources.

4.Coordinates and collaborates with school staff to identify and report suspected cases of child abuse.

5.Serves as liaison between the education and health communities by providing health counseling and

   guidance to students, staff and parents and by initiating necessary follow-up visits with private or

   community resources.

6.Contributes to planning of health education curriculum to meet the needs of all children, including the

   exceptional child and to integrate heal concepts into the total curriculum.

7.Participates in planning objectives, standards, implementation and evaluation of school health programs

   and services.

8.Assists the administrator in planning for the control of communicable diseases, first aid in acute illness

   or injury and for safety and sanitation in the school.

9.Utilizes student contacts to teach positive health concepts and attitudes.

10.Participates in professional organizations and training programs to maintain current skills. Provides

     training for health paraeducators, volunteers and students in selected health services.

11.Provides related duties as assigned.

IV.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A.Education and Experience

1.Baccalaureate degree in nursing or related field.

2.Experience working with school age children in a health office or school setting.

 

B.Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

1.Knowledge of principals of nursing, medical terminology, aseptic/sterile techniques and infectious

    disease control.

2.Knowledge of normal and abnormal anatomy, physiology, psycho/social and disease entities.

3.Ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally with students, parents, staff, administration,

    volunteers and the public in a diverse environment.

4.Ability to organize own work, lead under pressure, adjust to varied and new situations, demands and

   health issues.

5.Ability to maintain confidential and sensitive information.

6.Ability to lift 40 pounds and push/pull 60 pounds.

7.Ability to use instructional skills and principles of learning when presenting educational materials to

   students, parents and staff.

 

C.Certification  and Licenses

1.Washington State ESA Certification

2.Fingerprinting and background check.

3.First aid and CPR Card.

 

V.DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

1.Master’s degree in pediatric nursing or related field.

 

VI. WORKING CONDITIONS

Work is performed in a regular elementary or secondary school building. Ability to walk, sit, stand, crouch, and reach requiring ordinary physical effort; use of fingers and hands; ability to tolerate loud noises; lift 40 pounds and push/pull 60 pounds are all required.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

 

Employment with Clover Park School District is conditional pending completion of a Washington State Patrol and Federal Bureau of Investigation fingerprint background check as required by RCW28A.400.303. (NOTE: All associated background check fees are the employee’s responsibility.) The fingerprint scan must be completed prior to the first day of employment.

 

 

Insurance Benefits 

Employees who are anticipated to work 630 hours  during the school year (September 1 through August 31) are eligible for medical, dental, vision, long term disability and basic life insurance benefits.

Retirement and Deferred Compensation 

Eligible employees are required to be a member of the Washington State Department of Retirement Systems Plan.  For eligibility information, check on the link to the Department of Retirement Systems' web site. 

Employees also have the ability to participate in tax deferred 403(b) and 457 Deferred Compensation Plans (DCP). These are supplemental retirement savings programs that allows you control over the amount of pre-tax salary dollars you defer as well as the flexibility to choose between multiple investment options.
