IDENTIFYING INFORMATION

SUMMARY OF ASSIGNMENT

This position uses activity and adapted surroundings to facilitate needed skills to facilitate the student’s independent functioning and to decrease the effects of the handicapping condition on the student’s ability to participate in the educational process in cooperation with other staff members and parents.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

1.  Conduct and interpret informal and formal assessments of appropriate students, identified and referred for assessment, through the use of the Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) process.  

2.  Plan and implement educationally relevant therapy programs for eligible students.  

3.  Participate in the development of the Individualized Education Program (IEP) in conjunction with school personnel and parents.  

4.  Administer services as related to educational needs, identified in the IEP, which will achieve the goals of the program established for each student.  

5.  Monitor and attend to behavior of students during service sessions.  

6.  Coordinate services with those of other health and educational personnel and provide consultative services.  

7.  Participate in varied service delivery models (i.e. individual, group, consultative) in cooperation with the student, other school personnel, and the student’s family.  

8.  Evaluates students in terms of planned goals, revises intervention strategies as a result of the evaluation, and provides students with feedback on their progress.  

9.  Organizes and schedules assigned caseload at varied locations.  

10.  Request/recommend from the Special Education Department the basic equipment and supplies needed.  

11.  Continue professional educational development and participate in professional development activities for staff and support personnel.  

12.  Participate in policy formulation as it relates to services.  

13.  Maintain records and submit reports as required by law and district process and procedure.  

14.  Maintain, clean, utilize and transport needd equipment used for student’s therapy.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

 

Education and Experience

1.  Bachelor’s degree from an accredited 4 year college.

 

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

1.  Ability to function as a team member with staff and parents in the development of student IEPs.  

2.  Ability to communicate and interact positively with all types of disabled students, professional associates, and patrons of the school district.  

3.  Knowledge of educational versus medical concerns needing assistance from needed services.

4.  Knowledge of Special Education service delivery models.  

5.  Knowledge of rules and regulations from programs providing services to children with handicapping conditions and Clover Park School District policies.  

6.  Knowledge of, and ability to maintain/clean, equipment.  

7.  Ability to initiate and maintain required and adequate student and office records.  

8.  Ability to follow established guidelines to supervise Assistants when appropriate.  

9.  Ability to regularly lift and push/pull 40 pounds and occasionally lift 60 pounds.  

10.  Ability to be flexible in regards to scheduling, school selections and assignments.  

11.  Ability to organize workload in two or more work locations on a daily basis.

 

 

 

Desirable Qualifications

1.  Minimum of one year experience working with youth aged 3 to 21.  

2.  Working knowledge of computer software and ability to type at least 30 wpm.  

3.  Current First Aid/CPR  

4.  Willingness to participate in the educational preparation of students in professional and supportive levels of

     training in area of expertise.  

 

WORKING CONDITIONS

Work is performed at a regular elementary or secondary school building; may be various locations on a daily or weekly basis.  Exposure to normal amounts of dust and fumes from office machines and cleaning chemicals and occasional loud noises.  Ability to use arms, hands and fingers; lift and push/pull 40 pounds often; team lift 60 pounds occasionally; listen closely - more attentive than normal daily life frequently; and often bend, stretch, twist, walk or reach requiring recurring physical activity requiring more than ordinary strength or effort are all required.
