SUMMARY OF ASSIGNMENT

Under the direction of the building principal with specific direction from the certificated JROTC classroom teacher, provides instruction to groups of students in leadership, aerospace, and military science.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Instructs students in large or small groups on subjects such as leadership education, aerospace, science, military science, etc.
  2. Completes lesson plans, tests and measurements for approval of the senior instructor.
  3. Secures and maintains inventory of program supplies, uniforms, equipment and instructional materials. Serves as primary or alternate equipment custodian.
  4. Serves as liaison to appropriate branch of theUnited Statesmilitary such as headquarters, regional offices and local military installations.
  5. Supervises students during before school, after school and weekend JROTC functions such as drill team competitions, community service, parades and ceremonial events.
  6. Assists the senior instructor with administration, training and discipline of cadets.
  7. Coach’s students in marksmanship, safety, marching, parade formations and other extra curricular activities.

Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

 

Education and Experience

  1. High school diploma or equivalent (GED), AND
  2. Retired military noncommissioned officer with at least 15 years active duty.
  3. Retired four (4) years or less when hired. (May be waived for 1 year if exceptionally well qualified.)

Certification and Licenses

  1. Instructor certification as required by the military.
  2. Fingerprinting and background check.

 

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  1. Ability to communicate effectively, understand and sensitively work in a multi-cultural and ethnically diverse school surroundings, with the ability to communicate effectively with all cultural groups in the community and school environment.
  2. Ability to be self-directed, have initiative and self-reliance.
  3. Knowledge of the physical, intellectual, social and emotional growth patterns of high school students.
  4. Knowledge of audiovisual presentation methods, curriculum planning, military educational programs, drills and ceremonies, and educational administration including tests and measurements.
  5. Wear the service uniform every school day and on all other special occasions when in front of the general public.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

  1. College degree in education.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Work is performed in a regular school building. Ability to sit or stand for prolonged periods of time, ordinary skill in using finger, hands and arms, tolerance of occasionally loud noises and ability to work a flexible schedule are all required.
