Dates - Session 1 - June 18-June 25 (Child Find)
Session 2- June 21-July 1 (Summer Evaluation, ESY, Recovery services)
Session 3- July 6-16 (Summer Evaluation, ESY, Recovery services)
Session 4- July 19-29 (Summer Evaluation, ESY, Recovery services)
Session 5- August 2-25th (Child find, Summer Evaluation) 

Work Week - Mon - Fri

Hours - 7:30 am -3:30 pm

Location -in-person instruction

II. SUMMARY OF ASSIGNMENT
Under the general supervision of the summer school coordinators, provide children a learning environment with varied experiences that encourage age and stage appropriate development, while enhancing the parental role as the primary influence on child education and development during summer school early childhood services. 


III. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Plan and develop a daily schedule of classroom routines and activities. Prepare and

    implement lesson plans in accordance with the Head Start Performance Standards

    and the Head Start Work Plan.
2. Interact positively with all children to support individual learning and meet emotional

    needs.  Provide a curriculum and multi-cultural environment that meets the needs of

    each child, including those with disabilities.
3. Communicate regularly and respectfully with families while involving them in the

    educational program. Encourage and support families working toward established

    goals.
5. Attend teacher/parent meetings during the day or evening, as necessary.
6. Conduct and document written observations of individual children. Develop a learning

    plan for each child for summer school in collaboration with the ECSE teacher/team. 

8. Direct and train Head Start/ECEAP Teacher Assistants. Recruit and train volunteers

    for the classroom.
9. Participate in interdisciplinary planning for children and families, including staffing and

    other cross-component coordination efforts.
10. Maintain complete and confidential records on each child.
11. Maintain knowledge and skills by attending in-service training.
12. Assist with the planning, preparation, and serving of meals to children, as well as

     share the meal period with the children.
13. Provide for the physical welfare of each child; may include diaper changing and

     providing first aid.
14. Conduct regular classroom housekeeping duties. May include vacuuming, washing

     dishes, sweeping, mopping, etc.

Performs other duties as assigned.

IV. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A. Education and Experience
1. An AA degree in Early Childhood Education AND two (2) years of successful

    experience working in an early childhood classroom.

B. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
1. Knowledge of and competency in curriculum areas such as music, art, science, pre-

    reading, story telling, and language development.
2. Knowledge of and competency in planning, scheduling, record keeping, classroom

    arrangement and management, physical safety of children, and health needs of

    children.
3. Ability to effectively work with and communicate with students, parents, volunteers,

    staff, and administration within a diverse cultural and socio-economic environment.
4. Ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance.
5. Access to personal vehicle.
6. Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
7. Must be organized and dependable.

C. Certification and Licenses
1. Successful completion of fingerprint and background check.
2. Proof of physical examination and tuberculosis skin test.  Positive test results must

    be accompanied by a physician’s statement or chest x-ray.
3. First aid and CPR card.
4. Food and Beverage Handlers permit.
5. Current valid Washington State drivers license and proof of insurance.

V. DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
1. BA degree in Early childhood Education OR BA degree in a related field with Early

    Childhood Education endorsement.
2. Experience with low income families.
3. Ability to use all software packages included in Microsoft Office (including Excel,

    Word, PowerPoint, and Access).

VI.  WORKING CONDITIONS

Work is performed in a regular elementary school building.  Ability to bend, stretch, twist, walk, reach, requiring ordinary physical effort; lift 20 pounds and push/pull 40 pounds; listen more closely than normal daily life; use fingers, hands, and limbs with ordinary skill and speed are all required.  Exposure to dust, fumes, bleach and disinfectants, traffic, infectious diseases/sickness, bodily fluids, occasional extreme noise levels, and occasional high-risk interactions with emotionally disturbed or dangerous individuals.
