CLASS SPECIFICATION
I. IDENTIFYING INFORMATION

C. Reports to: D. Working Title: Building Principal Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) Registered Nurse (RN-non certificated)
II. SUMMARY OF ASSIGNMENT
Under general direction of the building principal, with lead direction from the Director of Student Services, provides health related services for students. Demonstrates competency in providing direct nursing care to students as delegated by an ESA Certified Registered Nurse. Maintains records as required by State statute and District policy.
III. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Accompanies technology dependent students to and from school when medical status is considered at risk for life threatening event during transport; uses skilled nursing judgment.
2. Performs standard physical health care procedures; tests and records vision, weight, hearing, scoliosis, and immunization status of students.
3. Provides health and nutrition education to children and parents in coordination with other staff.
4. Assists with the identification, prevention, and control of communicable diseases; observes universal precautions at all times.
5. Assembles, organizes, and maintains student health records, files, and supplies.
6. Coordinates District and community services for students with paraeducators, volunteers, school nurse, and building administrator.
7. Administers first aid, CPT, and emergency care to students who are sick or injured; notifies school nurse, administrator, and parents, as required. Completes accident and suspected child abuse reports, as required.
8. Administers prescription and non-prescription medicine as prescribed by health care professional or parents; maintains daily log.
9. Attends training related to students medical treatment needs.
10. Performs other essential functions, as requested.

IV. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
A. Education and Experience 1. Washington State license to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse or a Registered
Nurse
B. Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
1. Knowledge of the principles of nursing and medical terminology.
2. Knowledge of the principles and practices of aseptic/sterile techniques and infectious
disease control.
3. Knowledge of care and maintenance of medical supplies and equipment.
4. Knowledge of first aid and CPR.
5. Knowledge of both normal and abnormal anatomy, physiology, psycho/social, and
disease entities.
6. Ability to communicate in person, writing, or on the phone, with students, staff,
parents, and volunteers, in a diverse environment.
7. Ability to work under pressure, adjust to varied situations, demands, and new health
issues.
8. Ability to learn and integrate policies and procedures adopted by the school building,
the District, and the State of Washington.
9. Ability to be entrusted with confidential and sensitive information.
C. Certification and Licenses
1. Washington State license to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse or a registered
nurse with an associates degree.
2. First Aid and CPR Card
D. Desirable Qualification
1. Previous experience working with school-age children.
