CLASS SPECIFICATION

 

I. IDENTIFYING INFORMATION

II. SUMMARY OF ASSIGNMENT 
Under general direction of the Maintenance Supervisor provides service for the maintenance and repair of district facilities common to mechanical, electrical, plumbing and structural areas.  This poistion is subject to Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Mandated Drug and Alcohol Testing Program as provided in District Policy #5202.

 

III. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Builds, installs, modifies, and repairs in a safe and efficient manner as submitted on

    work order requests. Assures that work performed meets applicable local, state, and

    federal codes.
2. Prepares requisitions and specifications for supplies and materials.
3. Assists in the preparation of contract specifications, and assists with technical

    inspections to ensure compliance with specifications.
4. Interprets drawings, sketches, schematics, and specifications.
5. Maintains assigned tools and equipment.
6. Provides input for the most appropriate manner of repair, replacement, modification,

    or new installation work considering cost, timelines, and equipment and applicable

    county, state and federal codes.
7. Works cooperatively with supervisor to provide realistic labor and material cost

    estimates and with outside contractors.
8. Monitors operations on a routine basis and assists in identifying and evaluating

    maintenance needs for a planned maintenance program.
9. Assists in the analysis of preventive maintenance inspection findings and causes of

    failure; offers suggestions for correction. Assists in determining and recommending

    modifications to work practices or preventive maintenance frequencies.
10. Provides assistance to the supervisor in the preparation of reports and

     documentation of modifications to as-built drawings and facility records.
11. Adheres to district and departmental policies, procedures, and safety practices.

     Responds, when assigned, to emergencies that endanger life and District property.
12. Maintains up-to-date knowledge and expertise. Determines and requests training to

     maintain skills relevant to changing technology.
13. Assists other crafts in the performance of their duties.
14. Safe and courteous operation of District assigned vehicle.
15. Performs other duties as assigned.

 

The preceding list of essential functions is not exhaustive and may be supplemented as necessary. The position performs a variety of non-essential functions consistent with the scope and intent of the position.

 

IV. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
A.  Education and Experience

1. Completion of a trade school course in one or more of the assigned areas of

    responsibility, i.e., plumbing, electrical, mechanical, carpentry or building

    maintenance.  Two years of work experience in one or more of the above fields will

    substitute for the trade school training; AND
2. Three (3) years of successful work experience in one or more of the above fields.
 
B.Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
1.Knowledge of oil, gas, and electrically fired high and low pressure boiler systems.
2.Knowledge of hot water, heat pump, steam heating and related equipment.
3.Knowledge of diagnosis and repair of plumbing and piping systems.
4.Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with students, building

   staff, co-workers and contractors in a diverse environment.
5.Ability to lift 50 pounds to chest height and push/pull 60 pounds.
6.Ability to adjust, troubleshoot, balance, calibrate air handling and related equipment.
7.Ability to perform electrical diagnostic tests with appropriate test equipment and to

   replace or repair electrical components and assist with refrigeration repairs.
8.The ability to work independently on assigned tasks.
9.Ability to provide sufficient own non-powered hand tools to perform position functions.
10.Ability to climb to rooftops and other remote areas.
11.Ability to complete basic mathematical calculations such as addition, subtraction,

    multiplication and division.

C.Certification and Licenses
1.Valid Washington State Driver’s License and a safe driving record demonstrated by a

   current 5 year drivers extract.
2.Fingerprinting, background check and pre-employment drug test.

V. DESIRABLE QUALIFICATION
1.Valid First Aid/CPR card.


VI. WORKING CONDITIONS

Work is performed in all District buildings and sites. Ability to stand for prolonged periods of time, use fingers, hands and arms; be tolerant of occasional loud noises, lift 50 pounds to chest height; push/pull up to 60 pounds, climb ladders and work at roof level; operate a motorized vehicle; be exposed to traffic and all types of weather, are all required.
