*Hourly Wage Range - $28.08 - $29.79/hr

Hours per Day - 8.0

Days per Year - 260

SUMMARY OF ASSIGNMENT

Performs routine maintenance work for upkeep of outdoor grounds, play surfaces, structures, and facilities. Performs minor repair and renovation work and assists in major work.  This position is subject to Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) drug & alcohol testing as provided by District Policy 5259.    

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS  

1. Maintains ornamental grass areas, sports fields, play fields, undeveloped grass areas, shrub beds, flower beds, trees, and landscaped areas using hand power tools and equipment, and chemicals.  

2. Maintains and prepares athletic fields and other sports surfaces for use including slicing, thatching, rolling, dragging, layout and relining.  

3. Sweeps, edges, relines and applies chemicals to maintain parking lots, tennis courts, basketball courts, artificial turf fields, tracks, play areas, and roadways.  

4. Removes and disposes of trees, vegetation, and debris.

5. Trims and prunes shrubs and small trees.

6. Safely and courteously operate assigned District vehicles, heavy equipment and small equipment.

7. Performs minor repair work and assists in the major construction and repair of playground equipment, small structures, drainage systems, sewer systems, and irrigation systems, including trenching and backfilling for underground utilities.

8. Determines need for and obtains necessary supplies, tools, and equipment for assigned work orders.  

9. Prepares reports, maintains records, and assists in documenting changes to as-built drawings.

10. Assists other crafts in the performance of job duties.

11. Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS  

 

Education and Experience  

1. Four (4) years of recent successful gardener experience.  

2. Successful completion of two (2) years of related trade school may substitute for two years of experience.

 

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

1.  Ability to communicate effectively and courteously with employees, patrons and community contacts.  

2. Ability to correctly and safely use common gardener hand tools.  

3. Ability to safely operate grounds maintenance equipment, including blowers, edgers, riding mowers, farm tractors and light vehicles.  

4. Ability to work outside for prolonged time periods in adverse weather conditions and difficult ground conditions, including sewage clean-up.  

5. Ability to lift 50 pounds to chest height and perform all normal pulling, pushing and lifting activities.  

6. Ability to learn basic restroom housekeeping.

 

Certification and Licenses  

1. Valid Washington State Commercial Driver’s License Class B with Air Brakes and proof of a safe driving record demonstrated by a current 5 year drivers extract.  

2. Must obtain valid Public Operator’s Pesticide License for weed, insect and disease control within 180 days of hire date.  

3. Pre-employment drug test

 

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATION

1.  Six (6) years of recent, successful gardener grounds working experience.  

2. Educational training in landscaping or horticulture.  

3. Knowledge of small engine repair.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS  

Work is performed in and around District facilities. Ability to operate blower, edger, riding mower, farm tractor and light vehicles; lift 50 pounds; work outside in all types of weather; work at heights over 6 feet; and sit and stand for extended periods of time are all required.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

 

Employment with Clover Park School District is conditional pending completion of a Washington State Patrol and Federal Bureau of Investigation fingerprint background check as required by RCW28A.400.303. (NOTE: All associated background check fees are the employee’s responsibility.) The fingerprint scan must be completed prior to the first day of employment.

Employees who are anticipated to work 630 hours during the school year (September 1 through August 31) are eligible for medical, dental, vision, long term disability and basic life insurance benefits.

Retirement and Deferred Compensation

Employees also have the ability to participate in tax deferred 403(b) and 457 Deferred Compensation Plans (DCP). These are supplemental retirement savings programs that allows you control over the amount of pre-tax salary dollars you defer as well as the flexibility to choose between multiple investment options.
