SUBSTITUTE POSITIONS ARE ON-CALL, AT-WILL POSITIONS WITH NO GUARANTEE OF HOURS OR WORK.

 

 

$30.00/hr - Substitute Interpreters with DSHS or Equivalent Certification

$23.70/hr - Substitute Interpreters with CPSD Training

SUMMARY OF ASSIGNMENT

Provides individual and small group interpretation language support for ELL qualified students and
non-English speaking families in their native language. The Bilingual Interpreter serves as a language bridge between the school and students’ family. He/she provides interpretation services for non-English speaking families and English speaking school staff.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Provide individual or small group verbal language support (interpretation) for students, families and staff.
2. Assists students, families and teachers to communicate academic achievement.
3. Works with district staff to communicate student progress and needs.
4. Performs a wide variety of interpretation (verbal) services
5. Provides interpretation at student-parent-teacher conferences, IEP conferences, and community meetings (to include written communication).
6. Serves as a language bridge between the school and the student's family or the community.
7. Coordinates appointment scheduling between school and parents in parent’s native language.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

 

Education and Experience
1. Must complete 6-hour Interpreter Training class (offered through the school district or Puget Sound Education Service District) or college level interpretation program.


Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
1. Understanding of school terms and vocabulary.
2. Speak, read and write fluently in indicated language and English.
3. Ability to explain cultural concepts to avoid miscommunication and to act as a cultural broker.
4. Excellent listening and retention abilities.
5. Be punctual during scheduled work times.
6. Remain consistent, calm and fair under pressure.
7. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, parents, and public.
8. Ability to effectively work with diverse populations.
9. Strong verbal and written communication skills.


Certification and Licenses
1. Background check and fingerprinting.


WORKING CONDITIONS

Work is performed in regular school building located throughout the District. Ability to sit or stand for prolonged period of time; use of fingers, hands and arms; operate a motor vehicle, and tolerance of loud noises and physically demanding situations are all required.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

 

Employment with Clover Park School District is conditional pending completion of a Washington State Patrol and Federal Bureau of Investigation fingerprint background check as required by RCW28A.400.303. (NOTE: All associated background check fees are the employee’s responsibility.) The fingerprint scan must be completed prior to the first day of employment.

 

 

Insurance Benefits 

Employees who are anticipated to work 630 hours  during the school year (September 1 through August 31) are eligible for medical, dental, vision, long term disability and basic life insurance benefits.

Retirement and Deferred Compensation 

Eligible employees are required to be a member of the Washington State Department of Retirement Systems Plan.  For eligibility information, check on the link to the Department of Retirement Systems' web site. 

Employees also have the ability to participate in tax deferred 403(b) and 457 Deferred Compensation Plans (DCP). These are supplemental retirement savings programs that allows you control over the amount of pre-tax salary dollars you defer as well as the flexibility to choose between multiple investment options.
