SUMMARY OF ASSIGNMENT
Bilingual Classroom Para-Educator to support students in a high school world language program and student Multi-lingual Learners in an elementary building. Works collaboratively with teachers to create an engaging and inclusive learning environment, assists students in acquiring proficiency in the target language while addressing diverse academic and linguistic needs.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Provide instructional support in a world language classroom by assisting with lessons, activities, and projects under the direction of the classroom teacher.
  • Facilitate small group or one-on-one instruction to support language acquisition and reinforce lesson content.
  • Use bilingual skills to assist students in understanding and engaging with the curriculum, translating as needed for clarity.
  • Support MLL students in developing language skills in reading, writing, speaking, and listening in the target language.
  • Assist in the preparation of instructional materials, including visual aids, worksheets, and multimedia resources.
  • Assist the teacher with assessments and record-keeping.
  • Foster a positive and respectful classroom environment that encourages cultural appreciation and language learning.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to stay informed about best practices in language instruction and support.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or its recognized equivalent (GED) and two years of study at an institution of higher education a (72 quarter hours); or obtain an associate’s degree (or higher); or a passing score on a Washington State-approved assessment.
  • Six (6) months experience working with children or young adults.
  • Passing score on Oral Proficiency Interview in the target language.

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Proficiency in both English and the target language of instruction (e.g., Spanish).
  • Prior experience working with students in an educational setting is preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, teachers, and parents.
  • Understanding of or willingness to learn strategies for supporting language learners.
  • Ability to accurately and proficiently keyboard and utilize standard office software programs.
  • Ability to perform basic clerical tasks such as filing and use of office equipment, such as personal computer, telephone, fax, and photocopy machine and audio-visual equipment.
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently within established guidelines.
  • Ability to supervise elementary, middle, and high school students in large and small groups.
  • Ability to listen and respond appropriately to student needs.
  • Ability to work with students from a variety of multicultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Ability to make sound judgments in emergency or crisis situations.
  • Ability to learn skills of verbal de-escalation and behavior management
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure, meet strict deadlines, and maintain established time schedules.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in a courteous and professional manner with all levels of staff and community members.
  • Ability to learn and apply District policies and procedures.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Must be organized and dependable.


Certification and Licenses

  • Background check and fingerprinting.
  • First aid and CPR certification for employee’s assigned to the health room and transportation.

 

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

  • Previous experience in a bi-lingual or World Language classroom.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS
Work is performed in regular school building located throughout the district. Ability to sit or stand for prolonged period of time; use of fingers, hands and arms; operate a motor vehicle, and tolerance of loud noises and physically demanding situations are all required. May have to negotiate steps, ramps, uneven surfaces, and going outdoors in all types of weather to reach some classrooms and/or other district sites. This position is itinerant. The employee is required to use their personal vehicle or have the ability to transport themselves to various locations according to work schedule.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

 

Employment with Clover Park School District is conditional pending completion of a Washington State Patrol and Federal Bureau of Investigation fingerprint background check as required by RCW28A.400.303. (NOTE: All associated background check fees are the employee’s responsibility.) The fingerprint scan must be completed prior to the first day of employment.

Employees who are anticipated to work 630 hours during the school year (September 1 through August 31) are eligible for medical, dental, vision, long term disability and basic life insurance benefits.

Retirement and Deferred Compensation

These are supplemental retirement savings programs that allows you control over the amount of pre-tax salary dollars you defer as well as the flexibility to choose between multiple investment options.
