IDENTIFYING INFORMATION

Job Title:       Tutor                                      

Hourly Rate:   $11.00/hr (Substitute On-call, At-Will)

Location:       Lochburn Middle School

Reports to:    Human Resources/Building Administrator

SUMMARY OF ASSIGNMENT

Under general direction of the program administrator and classroom teacher, position responsibility includes supporting, monitoring, and tutoring varied online learning experiences of students in cooperation with other staff.

AVID tutors support our AVID tutorial groups.  The certificated AVID teacher in the classroom is supporting all the groups.  The AVID tutor helps ask probing questions to help facilitate the discussion and questioning process in their group of 7 students. 

Times would be include the following:

1^st period- 8:30-9:30        

5^th period- 1:00-2:00       

6^th period- 2:04-3:00       

Thursday:

1^st period- 9:15-10:15        

5^th period- 1:15-2:10       

6^th period- 2:05-3:00  

The AVID tutor could choose to do both the morning and afternoon classes, or pick morning or afternoon.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

 1. Support student online learning.
 2. Support the classroom teacher.
 3. Demonstrate subject tutoring. (Reading, Writing, Algebra, Geometry skills required)
 4. Provide an educational climate based upon mutual respect, rapport, fairness, and

    consistency.
 5. Demonstrate competency in online instructional skills.
 6. Inform pupils and parent/guardians of their progress in terms of objectives set for

     the lesson or course of study as per direction of the teacher.
 7. Interact positively with students, professional associates, and patrons of the school

    district.
 8. Meet classes, render accurate reports, perform assigned duties punctually, and

     respond to all online submissions in a timely manner.
 9. Adjust to varied situations, demands, and new instructional concepts.
 10. Fulfill job-related non-teaching duties.

The essential functions listed above are not exhaustive and may be supplemented as necessary.  The position may perform a variety of non-essential functions consistent with the scope and intent of the position.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A. Education and Experience
   1. High School Diploma or equivalency 

B. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
   1. Content knowledge in English and Math.
   2. Reading, Writing, Algebra, and Geometry skills preferred
   3. Ability to organize time and materials effectively.
   4. Ability to be flexible.
   5. Ability to communicate effectively with students, staff, parents and volunteers in a diverse environment.

C.  Certification and Licenses
   1. Successful completion of fingerprint and background check.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

 1.  School district experience

 2.  College experience

 3.  Experience in literacy or math instruction
 4.  Experience with Online Learning Programs

WORKING CONDITIONS

 Work is performed in a regular school building.
