WSI Swim Instructor Hourly Rate - $12.00/hr

Assistant Swim Instruction Hourly Rate - $11.50/hr

Lifeguard Hourly Rate - $12.00/hr

 

 

I. IDENTIFYING INFORMATION

II. SUMMARY OF ASSIGNMENT
Under the direct supervision of the Pool Supervisor, instructs swim classes, ensures public safety, and maintains equipment at aquatic recreational activities such as lessons and classes at the Clover Park High School and Lakes High School pools.

 

III. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

1. Plans, organizes and conducts an appropriate progressive course for each assigned

    class.
2. Employs the methods of instruction outlined by the Recreation Coordinator or

    designee.
3. Discerns unsafe situations and takes the initiative to correct them as necessary.
4. Works independently with a minimum amount of supervision.
5. Maintains maximum procedures to assure the safety of all members of the class.
6. Maintains visual contact with the class.
7. Knows and applies the rules of lifeguarding.
8. Conducts classes in a manner which ensures that the students are the top priority.
9. Follows and enforces the intent of all pool rules.
10.Correctly completes all assigned paperwork.
11.Follows directives of the Recreation Coordinator or designee, monitors aquatic

    activities, ensures activities are proper and appropriate.
12.Provides a safe environment for the public; supervises swimmers; renders assistance,

    first aid and/or CPR to accident and injury victims; rescues persons in distress.
13.Maintains aquatic equipment in good working order; ensures pool area is kept neat,

    clean and litter-free.
14.Provides information to the public concerning aquatic program policies, regulations

    and schedules; answers participant inquiries in person and over the phone.
15.Assists with collection of aquatic program fees and lesson registration.
16.Performs related duties as assigned.

 

The essential functions listed above are not exhaustive and may be supplemented as necessary.  The position may perform a variety of non-essential functions consistent with the scope and intent of the position.


IV. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A.Education and Experience
1.Must be at least 16 years of age.
2.Experience required:  Any combination equivalent to lifeguarding and teaching in the

   aquatic field.

 

B. Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
1. Knowledge of district policies and procedures.
2. Knowledge of general rules, regulations, practices and terminology of aquatic

    activities.
3. Clear oral and written communication skills.
4. Ability to use maturity in judgment.
5. Ability to be focused and alert to prevent hazardous situations.
6. Knowledge of proper lifesaving equipment and its use.
7. Water lifesaving skills and techniques of lifeguarding.
8. Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy.
9. Ability to establish rapport and maintain cooperative working relationships with the

    public.
10.Ability to communicate effectively with staff and public about programs.
11.Ability to remain calm under noisy and confusing conditions.
12.Ability to respond effectively and successfully to ensure the safety of others, and to

    apply first aid/CPR when necessary.
13.Must be dependable, able to get along with others and be a team player.

 

C. Certification and Licenses
1. Water Safety Instructor Certificate
2. Lifeguard training certification required.
3. Current first aid and CPR.

 

V. DESIRABLE QUALIFICATION

1. None.

 

VI.WORKING CONDITIONS

 

ENVIRONMENT: Indoor recreational pool, subject to noise and distractions. Variable work schedules, including evenings, weekends, holidays and/or special events as required.
 PHYSICAL ABILITIES: Physical agility and stamina; lifting, walking and overall physical movement; carrying, pushing or pulling; occasional heavy lifting up to 100 pounds (during rescue); sitting and standing for extended periods of time; vision to monitor individual activities and read program materials; hearing and speaking to exchange information to others.
